Author, Mrs. Greenhow Meet at Old Haunt Actress Emily Lapisardi (left) recreates the role of Rose Greenhow at a launch party June 7, 2005, for Wild Rose, Civil War Spy, the new biography of Mrs. Greenhow by Ann Blackman (right). The ladies met in the living room of President James Monroe’s former home in Washington. The house, now the Arts Club of Washington, served as the British Legation when Rose Greenhow added spark to the social life of the young capital before the Civil War. She was a good friend of Lord and Lady Napier, who lived and entertained in the house on I Street a few blocks from the White House.
