Old Capitol Prison

Old Capitol Prison

This building, on the site where the Supreme Court stands today, was used by the House and Senate as their legislative chambers after the British burned the Capitol during the War of 1812. Rose grew up in the building when it was used as a boarding house and was later held there after the Union converted it into a prison for spies and prisoners of war.
